Despite an eighth-place finish in the final mass start race of the World Cup long track speed skating season, Ivanie Blondin of Ottawa captured the title in the discipline on Sunday in Erfurt, Germany.
Teammate Denny Morrison won his second gold of the weekend, taking the 1,500 metres. Laurent Dubreuil captured silver in the men’s 500 on Sunday.
Morrison won the Cup overall title in the 1,500 to go with a fifth-place finish in the 1,000 and Dubreuil finished second in the 500 standings.
Ottawa’s Vincent de Haître picked up a bronze medal in the 1,000 on Saturday, his best result of the year. Morrsion won gold in that race.
