When Ottawa’s Chris Murray wanted help a couple months ago with an elaborate proposal for his girlfriend, he reached out to the frontman of one of his favourite bands, Arkells. He wasn’t expecting much.
“This is definitely a long shot, but nothing ventured, nothing gained,” Murray began in his online message to lead singer Max Kerman.
Murray then laid out the situation: He was in love with his girlfriend of a year-and-a-half, Jennifer Katsuno, and very much wanted to craft a unique proposal around one of Arkells’ songs, “11:11”, that the couple had connected over during their first few months of dating. Murray knew the band was playing Bluesfest this summer, and hoped something special could be arranged between them.
